Nothing really epitomizes the Australian bush experience like camping out. So if pitching a tent and ‘roughing it’ for a weekend is your idea of fun, or even if you prefer the comfort of a powered site – it’s all here at Gordon Country. Enjoy Goomburra Valley’s beautiful natural landscapes from lush rain forest to Australian bush, large grassy plains and crystal clear freshwater creeks.
We invite you on arrival to explore before you finally settle on a place to set up camp and call home for your getaway. Nominate a spot when booking if you wish as well, that’s quite okay. We assure you however, you’re not locked into that particular site once here and do have the option of changing over to another site. You’ll be so excited by the choices with our variety of amazing areas.. even your dog will love it!
We’ve recently been fortunate enough to acquire back a parcel of land that once belonged to the Gordon Family further up the Valley. This had originally been named Goomburra Forest Retreat. We can now offer you our guests a selection of new cabins, as well as additional creek and lush open space campsites to choose from. This area is supported by a centrally located solar powered shower & toilet block. You’ll love the geography through this area which almost appears to be ‘naturally’ landscaped.
For those yet unfamiliar with Gordon Country, it’s hard to comprehend the scope of sites we have & the actual size of those sites. Enjoy the beautiful freshwater creek which meanders for kilometers through the rugged mountains and countryside. Our freshwater creeks boast both shallow and deep water holes. Imagine the fun! Catch yabbies. Dive in. Go fishing. Ideal after a big day of hiking, horse riding (conditions apply), or 4WDriving.
For Conventional Vehicles
If you don’t have a 4WD or for any other reason you require the convenience of facilities close by, we suggest The Cottage Site that has 22 powered sites. Look out for the first lot of camping signs that are approximately half a kilometer down the gravel road. The Black Cockatoo Site is a further kilometre along and it’s also a great option if you have a conventional car.
If privacy is important to you and if you have a porta pottie, our suggestions are either Bull Hole, Banshee Junction, the Festival Site or Bowerbird. These are all well marked, on the creek, and easily accessible regardless of your vehicle type.
How do I pick a Campsite?
Our website for reasons of practicality, only highlights a few of the possible camping sites you might find perfect for you. Here however, are a few tools to help you navigate the many options available!
Campsites which offer facilities include:
Cottage Camp Site – hot showers and toilets plus disabled shower and toilet. Our site office and Shop is also located here.
Banshee Valley (first flat)- septic toilet block
Black Cockatoo – hot showers and toilets
Festival Site – septic toilet block
Goomburra Retreat campsites – solar powered hot showers and toilet block
All of the above are accessible by two wheel drive vehicles. Please note that all campsites are within one kilometre of toilets and/or showers.
Best Sites for Caravans:
Cottage Camp Site
Gordon Country advises that we’ve completed bridge works commenced last year which has enabled us to open up many more sites, including the Banshee Valley which will be more readily accessible by the majority of caravans.
All campers must register at the site office located at the Cottage Camp site (where our Convenience Store is located). In the event of an emergency, we can ensure we account for everyone which is a council requirement.
How will I find my friends?
Gordon Country has no mobile phone reception which is one of our endearing qualities! For those guests meeting other friends or family here, it is vital to register with us on arrival and advise us where you will be camped. If those joining you are arriving late, we recommend a pre-arranged meeting site or alternately, use UHF facilities to make contact.
Our powered sites are available on our Cottage Camp Site and we have available 22 sites. Cottage Camp site is across 20 acres on a beautiful, flat, grassy area at the base of a mountain and next to a meandering creek. Each site is limited to 10 people. For larger group bookings please do not hesitate to contact us and we’ll certainly do our best to accommodate you.
The cost for a powered site is $18.00 per adult per night and $11.00 for children per night. Under 4 is free with child rates applying to 4 – 15 year olds.
All guests are required to remove their rubbish when they leave.
While there are no fire bans in place at the moment, it is critical that appropriate care is taken by way of the following steps during your stay with us at Gordon Country. This protects most importantly you our guests, as well as the animals, wildlife and property.
- Use an established fire pit;
- Make sure the fire is fully extinguished before the last person retires for the evening and is doused with water;
- Keep the fire moderate and appropriate for your camp size so that there are no large embers or flames; and
- Never leave the fire unattended.
PLEASE NOTE: There is a mandatory vehicle fee of $10 per car and $30 per 4WD, with a nominal $30 Cabin cleaning fee. These fees cover the duration of your stay and are payable at the time of your booking.
Please note: While we are reluctant to include a vehicle fee – the cost of sustainable road and track maintenance has sky rocketed over the last several years limiting our options. It is an absolute priority to us to maintain safe and reliable access for vehicles and we ask that you appreciate the constraints both use and weather, have on this internal infrastructure.
